Every Church needs strong courageous leadership. However, leadership does not mean those in positions of influence and authority have to monopolise or spearhead everything themselves,
in fact, our model strives to give opportunity and priority to emerging leaders; so Kaptivate spawns an environment of maturity balanced and complimented by opportunity. Leadership should be catalytic, propagate and nurture leaders and empower all facets of ministry experience. We like the Jesus model. Come follow me (Observe), Come minister with me (Learn), go I give you authority (Sent).
Kaptivate was birthed in mid 2025 by a group determined to transition away from some of the mainstream constructs of modern Church that are counterproductive to an empowered, engaged community of Faith. In a nutshell, Kaptivate is leading a reworking of the playing field toward being the Church, NOT just doing Church. It sounds clichéd, but the Church is not a building, or a traditional set of programs/services. It is a collective of likeminded individuals, couples and families, intent on impacting their sphere of influence through the power of the Spirit. We are implementing subtle, yet critical changes that affirm the significance of each individual, increase congregational involvement, identify, activate and release giftedness, strategically equip people to minister across the community, placing priority on everyday mission. Yes, there is incredible meaning and value in assembling together to be built up and edified, but the bigger picture is reaching those outside the Church - That's where the urgency and energy is to be expended.
Ephesians 4:11-12 highlights that Christ gave the Five-Fold ministry of Apostle, Prophet, Evangelist, Pastor and Teacher to ensure the Church had the right combination and variety of leadership gifts to establish, strengthen, balance and impel the Church forward. Some of those functions require trail blazers and pioneers who will plough new ground. Others are passionate about reaching the lost and proclaiming the Gospel taking the transformational message of hope to the World. Others again revel in shepherding and imparting knowledge.
But here's the key: All together these 5 offices provide 5 streams of ministry for the body of believers to replicate and flow in. They lead the way and believers each naturally fit into one of those ministry streams as the innate overflow of personal giftedness and passion. Nobody is locked in exclusively to one stream, but we tend to resonate with one function as our major contribution to the work of the Kingdom.
The Apostle Paul was insistent that the Five-Fold ministry was given to framework the Church, to equip the saints and ensure a succession of gifts was evident and handed on. Without the Five-Fold ministry respected, promoted and exercised we are incomplete. Kaptivate is giving expression to these key functions in the overall shape and expression of our leadership team and philosophy of ministry. It is not about titles and positions; it is ensuring at the grass roots level that every component of the body understands their function and we work in unison.
At Kaptivate we are determined to roll up our sleeves, forge new ground, transform rigid gatherings into open workshops and training grounds, spaces of opportunity and learning, all the while seeking to impart to each other as we encounter the Lord together. To put it in simplest terms we are closing the gap between laity and clergy.
Our leadership team is in its formative stages as we creatively envisage our future growth and plan how we best manage the way forward. At the moment we have 2 groups steering the life of the Church. One is our management committee overseeing logistics, administration and general organisation. The other group is serving as spiritual oversight, focussing on Pastoral Care, Prayer and Discipleship. We are blessed with so many gifted leaders contributing to the overall vision and mission at Kaptivate. Some are prominent, others toil selflessly and quietly behind the scenes, but in God's eyes and ours they are all special.
Mark and Cheryl Wilson are the Kaptivate team leaders. They understand successful leadership hinges on a range of gifted people coming together to form a rich mosaic of talent. They are catalysts for spiritual formation and growth, exhorting people to step out into their God given design and destiny, so don't plan to be comfortable! They are humbled by the calibre of quality people God has set around them in Ipswich.
