The Shift in Perspective
We are encouraging people to modify how they see their purpose in the Church’s mission.
Most modern churches operate like Cruise Ships. People come to be entertained, consume a "program," and enjoy the ride. But at Kaptivate, we are an Aircraft Carrier. An aircraft carrier is always on mission. It exists to equip its crew, fuel their engines, and launch them into the world where the real work happens. You aren't just a "member" here; you are part of a mission-critical crew destined for your community, your workplace, and your home.
The Cycle of the "Go"
Our discipleship isn’t about sitting in a row of seats; it’s about a rhythmic cycle of movement:
1. Equip: We identify your calling, unique gifts and functions —not just for church tasks, but for your influence in the world.
2. Go: You are sent into your "mission field" - the school gate, the coffee shop, the office, or the neighbourhood - to live out the gospel.
3. Return: You come back to the "ship" to be supported, encouraged, and upskilled.
4. Repeat: With fresh fuel and sharper skills, you go out again.
The Engine Room: Co-Mentoring
We do discipleship differently through Co-Mentoring. In many churches, "mentoring" is a one-way street: the "expert" teaches the "student." At Kaptivate, we believe in reciprocal, humble partnership. Co-mentoring is a pair of disciples who are both open to learning from each other’s journey with God. We don’t talk at each other; we think with each other.
How We Do It:
· The VITAL Model: We use a structured framework developed over 4 decades to help each other find God’s direction, set SMART goals including what virtues are needed (discipline) to achieve them for the week ahead.
· Self Discovery learning: We are disempowered when told what to do and think. Given the space to discover truth for ourselves gives ownership and true growth.
· The Code of Honour: Every partnership is built on a foundation of trust, non-judgment, and mutual encouragement. We are "Alongsiders" who journey together.
Your Role is Recognised
You were created with a specific "shape" for ministry. We don’t want to fit you into a pre-existing church volunteer slot; we want to help you recognise your God-given role and gifting.
