Gathering

We are endeavouring to reshape the culture of the local Church whenever we assemble together for corporate gatherings, meetings in homes or special events. To be more spontaneous and open to the promptings and gifts of the Holy Spirit, so that a wider body of people can be included in ministry.

It is not a new paradigm to be less structured, organic and more inclusive of body ministry. But it is a shift away from the attractional model and professionalism of mainstream Church profiles. We appreciate our chosen style won't suit everyone but feel welcome to come and check us out!

To that end we value:

Presence over Presentation

Intimacy over Industry

People over Position

Encounter over Entertainment

Jesus over Everything

You don't "BELONG" at Kaptivate, because you attend an event, or hold a title or have a prominent role in our gatherings or a position in our structure; you BELONG because we are all brothers and sisters in the family of God, of innate value and carry destiny. You belong because you have immeasurable worth to God and His people. You belong because we all have a divine destiny and design, an anointing to help contribute to the building of Jesus' Kingdom and we come together to help each other discover and achieve that destiny. We all bring something unique and meaningful to impart into others, both within and without of the Christian community.

The best way we can describe our mandate is to envisage Kaptivate like an aircraft carrier: Fighter Jets are made for action. They launch out on assignment, dispatched to hit a target and return to be repaired, refuelled and marshalled again. The focus is not primarily the Aircraft Carrier although it serves a vital function. Likewise, our weight of ministry doesn't emphasise centring on the institution of the Church, a building or being religious and attending regular Sunday Services as the pinnacle - We are advancing a Kingdom.

Most importantly our momentum is placed upon readiness to tackle the everyday missions assigned to us both corporately and individually as we scatter and impact our community for Christ in the workplace and neighbourhood. We aim for that attitude to be our predisposition and default philosophy of ministry. It's all about reaching the people in Ipswich that are yet to know Jesus and experience his transformation in their lives, coupled with spurring one another on to be the best representation of Jesus in our world.

Most of what we consider valuable doesn't occur on a stage or in the spotlight, it doesn't get recorded for posterity, it happens behind closed doors in fervent prayer, inspired conversations with a stranger, random acts of kindness, coffee chats, prayer walks, intercession, a caring visit or call, a prophetic word, an email of encouragement or a timely text message - Building bridges to those who come across our path or who form part of the daily fabric of our lives.

Here's the challenge of the task: The Church is the only organisation that exists primarily for its non-members; that is why the imperative of the great commission is to "GO" into the world and make disciples. Let us not make the mistake of overly investing in a holy huddle or club mentality because it is easy to slip into that comfortable and self-interest mould. Let's celebrate how many people we are effectively sending out, far more than how many attend our gatherings!

It is a small but significant paradigm shift to "gather" in preparation and readiness to "scatter" purposefully into the community as a representative of King Jesus and His Kingdom, galvanised in the power of the Holy Spirit.

We gather every Sunday at 9am at the legacy hub called You, Me and Community. It is located top of the Nicholas Street Mall, right in the heart of Ipswich next to Hoyts Cinema and General Republic. Signage will mark the way. Our gatherings are casual but purposeful; you will find plenty of children, young families and a broad mix of ages. Come check us out!
